The Nat Martin Band was first formed back in 2006 and started life as a blues covers band. Initially the band was just a trio with Nat on guitar and vocals along with Marco Meniconi on bass and Owen Martin on drums, but they soon expanded this line up to include Jez Davies on keys. It was at this point that Nat began writing original material for the band, aiming to incorporate the elements of several musical styles that were close to his heart, specifically; Blues, Jazz and Funk. Collectively the musicians in the band offer a number of different musical influences including Blues, Jazz, Fusion, Funk, Soul and Classical.

The band has played gigs at a number of different venues having been well received at gigs for Boogaloo promotions and for London promoter Pete Feenstra. Collectively, the bands C.V contains a number of credits including having worked with Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Thomas Dolby, Bo Diddley, Susie Quatro, Winston Blissett and many other artists.

The original demo that the band recorded in 2006 consisted of four tracks; a blues cover, two original blues tunes and another original written by Nat Martin and Jez Davies that was starting to explore the possibilities of blending blues with the jazz and funk genres. This led ultimately to the creation of the ten tracks on the ‘Don’t Lose Your Cool’ album, many of which more obviously contain elements of Blues, Jazz and Funk.

In late 2010, with the album close to completion, the band were taken on by Nick Meier (a former tutor of Nat’s), who offered the band the opportunity of a structured direction and support for which the band are all very grateful to him for!

The Nat Martin Band feel privileged to have become a part of MGP records and hope to add something to the high quality musical output of this label.
